Fort Lauderdale Boat Show Looks To The Future
The Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show, which brings almost the economic impact of a Super Bowl to the area each year, is giddy about the future. They have a 5 year plan where they see major area improvements bringing the Show to even greater heights. Specifically, within that time period the Port Everglades deep water dredging will be complete, allowing for larger vessels including mega yachts. The hotel where the Show is headquartered is being renovated and will be complete by then. That will come in tandem with the expansion of the Ft. Lauderdale / Broward County Convention Center.
The tourism economy will be even more diverse by then given the path we are on now, unless the global economy somehow miraculously recovers. And there will be more high end retailers in the area, to provide amenities and comfort to the attendees. There is a chance that the Bahia Mar project could be done by then as well, and there are plans to dredge the New River. The dredging of the Dania Cutoff Canal is also on tap which is expected to be “transformational” for the local marine industry.” All of this leads to speculation that additional boat slips will be needed to accommodate the future growth of the Show, which could be located at the convention center. Yes the future for Ft. Lauderdale and the Boat Show looks extremely bright right now. Residential infil along the
New River is almost complete and definitely will be within the next 5 years. There is also a renewed effort to create an educated workforce, which has been a serious problem for the area for years. If the efforts to improve it are successful it will lead even more people and businesses to the region. I was at a property on the New River yesterday with a client and trust me it is very impressive right now! I can’t wait to see what it looks like in 5 years.
